Long Time...No Blog
I've had a very eventful week and a half, so please excuse my lack of updates. I got to go to a week long music school which I emensly enjoyed. I won't share the details online, because I would rather be face to face when sharing those events. However, I did have another experiance that I'm more than happy to share with the world.
Friday night I graduated from the music school, and had to get up very early in the morning to fly to Texas for a family reunion that day. I stayed with Chris and Amy for the night, and let me tell you that is an experiance all to itself! We were up til about 3am laughing about things that didn't even make sense. I can't even remember what they were. I think my brain had already shut down. Anyway..it will always be one of my fondess memories of the school. Amy got up at 7 to take me to the airport. Wasn't that sweet? Everybody say "Awww." The flight went smoothly and I landed safely in Texas. My cousin and her new fiance' whom I had not met previously, picked me up to drive the two hours to the family reunion. Yep..just me, my cousin, some guy I don't know and two whining, peeing little dogs who licked my face all the way to Waco! It was a lovely ride. Anyway..yada yada yada...time to fly back home on Sunday evening.
Our plane was scheduled to leave at 6:45. Because of weather we were delayed until 8:30. We boarded the plane, and found our seats on this tiny express jet. I've never been on a small plane, and I must admit to you that I was a little nervous. Now, I don't know why small planes make me nervous, it seems only logical that I should be more afraid that there would be a problem with FLIGHT in something that weighed MORE! Well...that's beside the point. We were nice and cozy in our seats and patiently awaiting take off, when all of the sudden the power went out! The lights, the air conditioning (as if I wasn't feeling claustraphobic enough)..everything was off. The emergency signs started flashing and erie shade of bluish green. I looked at the flight attendant who was hitching a ride next to me, and looking for some assurance asked if this was normal. She quickly replied, "I have to be honest with you Ma'am, in all my years of flying I've NEVER seen this." At this point, I was keeping myself pretty calm. Telling myself things like.."This is a GOOD thing Leah. It's good that they caught this problem ON THE GROUND!" I took a few deep breaths and the lights came back on. The pilot announced that the airport had just unhooked us a little early and the crew was coming to push a reset button. The flight attendant next to me still looked puzzeled. The next thing I knew, the working flight attendant came back to our section and told the flight attendant next to me that she would have to exit the plane. When my comforting friend asked why...the woman simply replied.."We're too heavy!" I watched the 120lb. flight attendant walk down the long narrow aisle and out into the rain. I turned to the young lady across the aisle from me and said, "If we're that close in weight, I'm a little worried. How 'bout you?" She agreed that this was a most strange occurence. While we were still trying to figure things out, the working flight attendant came back and asked a woman behind us to exit the plane as well. She again cited the reason as being that the plane was too heavy and that it was a matter of weights and balances. At this point I started to pray..."Oh God! Please let me get off this DEATH PLANE!" However, I have to admit that seeing THAT lady leave made me feel slightly better. She had to be 250lbs. I don't mean that cruely. I'm just saying that if it's a matter of being too heavy, you don't want all the skinny people to be pulled off the plane. You want to get rid of the fat ones first. Which is exactly why I feared yet also HOPED that I would be the next one off the plane! I began discussing this with the girl across the aisle. We both agreed that we felt a little better. Finally we took off, and it turned out to be one of the smoothest flights I've ever been on. Then of course we landed, and had to walk out on the tarmac. Have you ever done that? It's sooo wierd. Anyway, my brother's luggage got lost and that was the end of the story. We were supposed to get home about 8:30, and we got home at 1am instead. Reading it now, doesn't seem so tramatic, but in the moment it was terrifing!
Went through some pics tonight with my brother and his fiance'. They're putting together one of those slide shows for their wedding. Found lots of cute pics of him, and lots of blackmail ones of ME! In fact I found one where I was about 13 and I had a perm. My mom had teased my hair as big as hers (for reference purposes, we're from Texas, and it really is true what they say about women's hair in Texas), and the outfit I'm wearing..well..I look like I'm 40! I laughed for a solid 5 min. It has to be the worst hair pic I've ever seen of me. I thought about sharing it with all of you wonderful people, but I'm gonna use the excuse that I don't know how to scan a pic. And when you come over and ask to see it, I'm gonna use the excuse that I accidently dropped it in the paper shredder! Literally my head is bigger than the three other people's heads in the pic combined! Well..enough about that.
THE END
